Jump on the Bandwagon

July 23, 2007 / by beautifullychaotic

It seems I have returned one final time.

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon an account that caught my intrest. It was a fan site for Harry Potter. Normally when you think of fan sites, you think of people who pretty much devote apart of their life to that person or object they admire. I am a Harry Potter fan, no doubt. I own every movie that has came out so far, as well as all the books. I own blankets, cups, cards.. anything that has to do with Harry Potter. Opening night for the movies, and the books, I am awake all night in anticipation. Since the 6th book, I've spent my time talking about my theories on the final book, visiting forums to read others theories. And for the last month, Harry Potter is all I have been able to talk about. I have now just been up all night and day reading this book. I read slow so I could take everything in. I even cried when even the minor characters died. It all formed in my head, it was all real to me.

But that is not the point, the point is this so called fan site. I was very discouraged once I browsed their site. They knew nothing of Harry Potter or any of the books. Even a minor detail as his birthday, they knew not. Yet they called themselves fans. So I commented saying that they didn't know when Harry Potter's birthdate, or even the actor who played him, was, then they could not call themselves fans. And they dare say I do not even know the definition of a fan.

I wil admit that you don't need to know EVERYTHING about Harry Potter to be a fan, but you should know the basics. And you should not like him for the sole fact that Daniel Radcliffe is hot. Thats the problem with many people today. They judge based on looks, 'Ooo Daniel is hot, this movie must be good'.. Years before the movies were made, I was reading these books, watching Harry fight inside my head. I formed my own image of Harry Potter and all the characters that JKRowling produced, soley on her description of them. It was after the first book that I knew I would be with this series to the end. This so called fan goes on about how much she loves the movies and all that, but never speaks of the books. I will always choose the books over the movies, as they are JKRowlings, when the movies are not.

-----------
u are such an ugly girl
sorri to say that
u are mean
say u know everything
and i always think ur stpid
ur pics are ugly by the way
and never ever talk to me and my friends again!!!!!!
STUPID STALKER!!!!!
------------

This is a message she sent me on my blogster account. I have yet to figure out what being 'an ugly girl' has to do with anything. Or how my knowledge of Harry Potter that has been picked up by reading, makes me a stalker. As most of you can tell, this is the works of a very immature person. And if anyone deserves to be called a hypocrite.. well it isn't me.

You can all read my comments and you decide if what I said was out of line, maybe in a way, it was. But I do not like people who jump on bandwagons. It is those who should be called the hypocrites.

She called you ugly because she knew she was wrong and really in fact know nothing about Harry Potter. Haha how sad. But I'm not gonna lie... I never got into the craze. I've never watched a movie or read one of the books[HUH] But my boyfriend just got book 7 and he hasn't put it down yet. [LOL][COOL][HEART]

I agree Ashley. I too am a fan of Harry Potter, not the movies the books. I refuse to watch the movies for the exact reason you stated here, i had already formed my own image of Harry Potter. I think all the hype about it makes people want to be a part of it even if they dont know sh*t about it. We know who the true fans are.

Hmmm i wonder if you would like The Belgariad by David Eddings, this series has 5 books followed by The Malloreon which is another 5 books plus he does prequels to them also. Another fantasy series i could not put down, if you have time and have not read them already give them a try, i dont think you would be dissappointed.

    oh just so u know....
    i got some scoop
    u won't believe it
J.K Rowling is making an 8th book of Harry Potter.
but.... it's just an encyclopedia of all the charaters that J.K wasn't able to talk about more. Like Ginny, and Goerge and Fred.
I'm saying this in a kind way.
    not a mean nasty way.
    I am very sorri
    if u could just apologize.
I promise i will never talk to u again.....

Liek ohhhh miiiii gawddd aer u fer reeeel? (I hate the way you come across as a bubble gum chewing retard. Write like you have a brain and you might gain credibility). Don't you DARE call this intellient representative of the teenage population stupid. Ever. Oh, and for the record, when you say someone's picture is ugly-- you're commenting on their phenotype, not their 'mean-ness'.

    Dear Ashley,

I think I find myself in agreement with you on most of your points. The response from the fansite might be techncally called 'rage fallacy' in 'Critical Thinking and Reasoning'. It shows the hollowness of content by a person who falls prey to this fallacy.
But one question keeps on irking me since long, and I have posed it to several of my friends, but have yet to find a satisfactory answer. Why has Harry Potter attracted millions of people to its pages? Do you have an answer?

I think that even tho Harry Potter is fantasy, about witches and wizards and magic.. people can relate. Someone may have lost their parents, or it could be even as simple as "You're parents are so and so, you should be great". Having to live with a title you never chose. Everyone has enemies, everyone has friends, insecurities.. all of that. There are many more things that could draw a person to Harry Potter.

Myself, I do not like reality, so naturally I like this fantasy novel.
